What is the Process?

Projects are generally 4 weeks in duration. Blink Interactive starts each project with a planning phase through a kickoff meeting or conference call with the project team. Key goals of this meeting include gaining an understanding of your business context, defining the core research questions, and creating a profile of target users of the system that will be used to focus participant recruiting.

Participant sample size is determined to match the unique goals of each study. Most studies focus on qualitative measures and range in size from 8 to 16 participants carefully selected to represent the profiles of key user types.

Blink will develop a Recruitment Screener to recruit and validate potential study participants. A Usability Session Guide describes the study protocol and contains a walkthrough script for the testing sessions.

Testing location varies with each project. Blink has two usability labs in Seattle, a partner network of labs around the globe, portable in-field labs, and remote usability capabilities.

The testing phase starts with a pilot test session conducted prior to the start of the formal testing to ensure that the test plan will meet the project goals. One-on-one usability testing sessions then take place over a period of 2-5 days with all study participants. Sessions are typically scheduled for 60 to 90 minutes in duration. All participant sessions are recorded with digital copies available for client use.

Project Deliverables

Identifying usability issues is just the first step. Applying a first-hand understanding of the issue to create comprehensive design recommendations helps you put the research in to action. Each usability study at Blink Interactive results in:

  • Topline Findings summary delivered one business day after testing.
  • Findings and Recommendations Presentation containing a of all usability findings identified in the study along with design recommendations which are grounded in our experience providing user-centered interaction design services.
  • Video Highlights & Archive of participant sessions. Video from the usability testing provides powerful evidence to project stakeholders.
